After she started acting in TV serials mainly in ETV. She stopped acting in movies for a while after her marriage. She acted opposite Shivraj Kumar and Ravichandran in Kannada films. Later she played notable roles in films like Puttinti Pattuchira and Erra Mandaram.
She later starred opposite Vinod Kumar in another award-winning film Mamagaru. In this film, she acted as Gauri a young woman who is cheated by a government employee and fights for marital rights and the proper recognition of her illegitimate child. The film is based on the popular story of Sabita Badhei, who is popular in the media. She is best known for her 1989 film Mouna Poratam.
She has acted in about 50 Telugu and Kannada films. Yamuna made her Kannada film debut opposite Shivarajkumar in Modada Marayalli. She comes from a Telugu family in Karnataka. Apart from acting mainly in Telugu films, she has acted in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil language films and television serials.
